The Clinical Efficacy of Clarithromycin in The Treatment of Acute Maxillary sinusitis

Abstract
Clarithromycin was administered to evaluate the efficacy of the treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis.
From April to July 1995 thirty-two patients were randomized to receive 250mg clarithromycin orally two times daily. and were assessed by clinical symptoms and physical exams, sinus X-ray, and sinus culture and sensitivity prior to the treatment. Ten days after the treatment clinical symptoms improved 95% and physical exams were cured 93%. Sinus X-ray was resoluted 87% within 3 days and 100% within 10 days. All cases have achieved sensitivity by sinus culture. In laboratory tests abnormal findings were not developed and one patient was reported for adverse effects.
It is concluded that clarithromycin is clinically efficacy and safety for the treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis.
